Editorial Policy

Our goal is accurate, useful information about legal fees. These are the rules every guide follows.

Independence

Advertisers, law firms and directories have no influence over our fee ranges, rankings or topics. We don't publish paid reviews of lawyers or firms, and we don't compare named attorneys.

Sourcing

  • Every figure comes from a cited, dated source: official court fee schedules, government agencies (such as US Courts, the SSA, USCIS and the VA), state statutes and bar guidance, and industry surveys such as Clio's Legal Trends Report.
  • We aim for at least three sources per fee range and explain when sources disagree.
  • We don't copy fee tables from law firms or directories; firm-published prices are used only as one data point among independent sources.

How we handle legal accuracy

JuristScale is an independent editorial team, not a law firm. Our fee guides are written from official sources, government fee schedules and industry surveys, and every figure is cited and dated. Guides are not currently individually reviewed by a licensed attorney, so we never present them as legal advice: use them to budget and to ask better questions, then confirm fees and rules with a lawyer licensed in your state.

Sensitive topics

Guides about criminal charges, domestic violence and immigration are written with care, say that every case is different, never promise outcomes and list free or low-cost help such as public defenders, legal aid and hotlines.

Corrections

We fix errors quickly and update the "Last updated" date. Report an error through our contact page.

Use of AI tools

We may use software, including AI tools, to help research and draft guides. Every guide is based on cited sources and is checked by a person and reviewed by an attorney before publication.
